It is a worldwide website where people can open a "shop" and display and sell their handmade items; antiques and collectibles; and get to meet so many wonderful artisans from around the globe.

Many of the 'sellers' create Treasuries ~ whereby they create a 'theme' and then select 16 items from sellers around the world to showcase their 'wares'. As a seller myself I strongly believe in supporting the craft movement (hundreds of years old) and so whenever one of my items is chosen I try to promote it as much and as broadly as I can.

There are many times I promote them even when one of my items is NOT included.

Please stop by and visit this gorgeous Treasury ~ WEEKEND IN PARIS ~ to see the items selected. How honored I am to be included.

There is still plenty of time shop so visit the Etsy shops and see what creative and brilliant artisans the world has to offer YOU ~ and especially at this time of year. Thank you so much!

MarilynMarander Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04343863028443790436noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5156748809706030330.post-86824526306865976582011-12-05T10:59:00.000-08:002011-12-05T11:24:55.110-08:00Giveaway ~ Happy Holidays<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 299px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT40zGuLS2Ee9P3AK2f-oLhRy7tfpDZpGUeMu0Cqu9n37PGU1HugFIu_UBGzdvDuzXU0u52K8Goct7BQLN1KfXDfSSyteGfPA4vhOeeIJE9ukkRuW4L5lSpK3Pz52DZ1QtxoqyvvFQt8Q/s320/Paris+Sachets+B.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682725865752616466" />

The Holiday Giveaway

All you have to do is sign in, leave a comment and the winner will be chosen on Sunday ~ 11 December.
These are my latest creations as I inherited tons of books. Some I've kept to read, and some I create altered items and will share with you.
This one is an altered Hymnal. The book jacket was pretty much torn apart and thought I could do something special with it.

Yippee ~ Tracey will back to work on Tuesday!!!

All workers for Verizon will be reporting to work on Tuesday. Negotiations are still going on but in this terrible economy it was determined that people need to work and earn a living for their families.

God has definitely answered all our prayers.

This photograph was taken by my grandson Tyler Gauthier. Tyler (8 years old) is a wise, loving and special little boy.

This past week I took him and his older brother Matthew for the afternoon as his mother works for Verizon and she is picketing after contract negotiations broke down on August 7th. This is a very tough time for them as she receives no pay, no health insurance and the stress of that alone is extremely worrisome.

Tracey suffers with Lupus. Basically, Lupus is a widespread and chronic autoimmune disease that, for unknown reasons, causes the immune system to attack the body’s own tissues and organs, including the joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, blood, and skin.

Obviously all of us who love her dearly ~ worry.

Now ~ back to Tyler.

Off we went ~ 'junkin' and stopping by a local outlet where we could check out items available for sale. Both Tyler and Matthew saw a few things that interested them and I saw a LOT of items that interested me. We were getting hungry so we packed my stuff in the car and off we went. A local drive-in is known for fabulous food so we stopped and had fish and chips, clam strips and Tyler had a hotdog with french fries.

Although it was a gray day with sprinkles of rain off and on ~ I set out to take some photographs. We came across a gorgeous piece of land ~ with tractors out in the field picking *stuff* ... and a fabulous old barn. After parking the car, Tyler and I crossed the street and positioned ourselves to take some quick photographs. I had my camera ~ Tyler had his iPod. It began to rain in earnest so we went back to the car and called it a day.

Once we got home ~ Tyler showed me the three photographs he took.

One ~ was magnificent.

I told him I would upload it on to my computer and if he would like, I would put it in my Etsy shop to sell for him. He was all excited but I don't think he realized the magnitude of it all.

I explained that he could do whatever he wanted with the money ... if it sold. After a lengthy discussion he decided that he wanted 50% of the sale of this photograph to go to the Lupus Foundation ~ so he could help to find a cure for his mother. Tears came to my eyes as I realized that not only does he have the 'eye' (to take outstanding photographs) but that he was doing this for his mother.

The photograph sold.

Half of the proceeds were mailed to the Lupus Foundation. He received the other half ~ and he wants that to go into his college fund.

What a special and loving person he is. I am SO proud of him.

I relisted the photograph and I am praying more people will want to purchase this photograph. I will keep re-listing as they continue to sell.

This is Tyler. All my grandchildren are special and all four are kind, loving little people with their own special talent. Tyler's gift is photography as well as the gentle kindness of his heart and a loving soul.

How time passes quickly at this time of year. I have so many projects going and it seems as though we just celebrated Labor Day and I kept wishing for cooler days so I could work comfortably in my studio.

Be careful what you wish for.

Within the past ten days I opened another Etsy Shop ~ selling exclusive, handmade and designer greeting cards. The response has been wonderful and I've been humbled by the comments, purchases and support from people who have guided me through the online selling process.

For those of you who haven't heard of Etsy and/or shopped on Etsy ~ it is a worldwide shop for people to either create and/or sell their items. You can visit the shops and purchase handmade and/or vintage (antiques and collectibles) items ~ all in the convenience of your own home.

This is a designer greeting card that I created and was sold within a few hours of my posting it on Etsy.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF2-SM-jdkbzzb_KHu0AYcvo0w22weMNKH5KeszRCvr-pg2nCenQC91YwH4LEwIB51uNTyhkQg0e778uxBOQeA5vtn758vJ_iruibB5JI0TJV7s734ZWZ-iaul3qoiteeRvPXd9JChUXg/s320/Santa+Etching+003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548820420184724786" />

...it became that!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj01ccxq9naFC-Tnbm0O7Kka-AiF4u837fyc0mUkG8_HyD22UPMgmohubxb9yU-WFLpDH7FkFEAk3ZpYwGgqb1JzRpE94uRYsnazwViySSMfhvzdiLKibYbVuEKMgaqs_EFqTMB3o-7Fjo/s320/Jayne%2527s+Room.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5548821642913888738" />

Isn't HE beautiful? We are still researching that information, and will keep you posted. His mother was Scottish and their family emigrated from Scotland (Paisley) and came to Canada ~ upon which they traveled over the border and settled in New Hampshire ~ here in the United States. More to come with this side of the story.

Also, I love the landscape in November. Spring is gorgeous with the renewal of life; Summer is terrific with the barbecues, fireworks and sparklers; Autumn is outsanding with the crisp aire and brilliant colors; but November is a time of survival. Getting ready to prepare for the harshness of winter; the coming together to give thanks for the bounty we collected and testing our ability to weather any storm.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdLuNMddZme45AthW1jRQ8xgfiNkHPj1YJbDKV2BJvnhXimU8QaiJ0_uXhF6HSjIq6R6frtNVJ3mwyhhq0JgCWDF79V1eprKYgIlog6g01ZdgC9U-U7yvTZ-BPWCp_9x60eAM-q9MJeoI/s320/misty+Barn.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543494459164764066" />

Wishing you a joyous Thanksgiving and for the many friends in other parts of the world ~ a huge thanks to you as well.Marander Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04343863028443790436noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5156748809706030330.post-55858967336063164442010-11-20T11:11:00.000-08:002010-11-20T11:20:45.588-08:00The Winter WhitesIsn't it amazing how quickly the holidays have arrived this year? When I woke up this morning I made a pot of coffee, made my breakfast and went in the living room to eat (I know, I shouldn't be doing that), turned the television on to CNN ~ where it was announced that Prince William of England and Catherine Middleton were engaged.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 160px; height: 160px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDgFaOI1lqlzhyphenhyphenHso2GgFRDZjEuYhCMz2On4WMBm4wm_zF45IPZC72Mj49guTPO2UMLAADRazODuMpg-M1RIfuz4-3gRZtl9TiWFtiG6r7ppfatSmZtn6evJ_y5CCk5_R0pLuqLadP0a0/s320/784c-Britain-Royal-Wedding.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5540156199504431602" />

I should have been surprised but wasn't as this past weekend there were a few 'specials' about Prince William of England and his girlfriend Kate. Apparantly the country will be celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee as well as hosting the Olympics in 2012 ~ so the time for Wills to marry his Kate ~ would be better for all in the year 2011.

So Prince William asked Kate Middleton to marry him ~ last month in Kenya!!

For me, this announcement brought back a flood of memories to the day Prince Charles announced his engagement to then Lady Diana on a worldwide broadcast in February of 1981. I was much younger then so the event was surreal and who didn't love Lady Diana? For months the news coverage was endless and the anticipation of the wedding day was at fever pitch.

It was July 29, 1981 and I remember waking up at 3:00 am in order to make a pot of coffee, cook some breakfast and camp in front of the television set to witness all the historic events. As I walked in to living room (we only had one television set back then) and opened the drapes to what I thought would be total darkness ... every house on the street was lit up like a Christmas tree. I remember looking directly across the street and my neighbor Charlene was opening her drapes at the same time ~ so we waved to one another ... that in itself was something we talked about for years. We all had a common purpose that day and years later there are many of us who still talk about that event. It was one of those 'do you remember where you were' kind of moments.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 123px; height: 94px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghyphenhyphenJt93EudF9RFsNzc6ebt3CfEXO2pAFYeG6lTL2KxeaXlux90Vxy9PmKGHSou0wGdnmmaH0B8sj9_5S1qBobCMpmILQtJGn-rH2mMB3AQp_04Fr_aOOkUSW61A7ojbSolISglqNyQtfI/s320/Diana+and+Charles.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5540156646506118802" />

England has always had a special place in my heart. I had read (and still do) about the abdication of King Edward and how he gave up the throne to marry his beloved Wallis Simpson, an American. How romantic. How tragic. Unfortunately they put him in a position of chosing the woman he loved or the crown he inherited. He chose the woman he loved. Unfortunately he was forced to leave England. Eventually, they married each other in France and settled in Paris.

I sit here, among the many many books I have collected about Diana ~ Charles and Diana, the babies Wills and Harry and it is difficult for me to believe that over 29 years have passed since that historic event.

I also remember where I was when I received the devastating news that Diana had died in a horrific automobile accident in Paris. I remember where I was when the plane with Diana's casket in it ~ landed in England after Charles went to Paris to bring her back home. I remember the people leaving thousands of presents and flowers at the gate(s) of Buckingham Palace. I remember the funeral. I remember where I was while watching Wills and his brother, father, uncle and grandfather walk behind Diana's casket. I remember where I was while watching the hearse drive through the small hamlets of England as thousands of people threw flowers ~ blinding the driver so he had to put the windshield wipers on to clear his view of the road. Tears still well up in my eyes.

Unfortunately it was another 'do you remember where you were' event.

And, now the good news.

We all have another royal wedding to watch ~ and along with CNN and other worldwide satellite broadcasting stations available ~ it will be a celebration to behold.

I do believe that Diana is smiling down on her princely son (2nd in line to the throne) and knows her greatest contribution were William and Harry! How proud she must be!!

Do you remember where you were?
Marilyn

photos were uploaded from the internetMarander Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04343863028443790436noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5156748809706030330.post-83272000449907918662010-11-13T07:13:00.000-08:002010-11-13T07:16:31.204-08:00The WinnerTammy ~ you won!!

I posted this on the blog and I haven't heard from you ~ could you please send me your address so I can get your 'prizes' in the mail?

Congratulations and thanks!
Marilyn

Tammy Shelton ~ you are the winner this week!!! I originally designed it on paper and figured the winner could tuck a paperback book in there ~ to take with them when they had a few minutes to read (waiting for a plane, train, automobiles). Ha! Had to inject a little humor in there as I am living on Tylenol and spiked a fever again today (flu).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh44HNFApl3v9Agal6j8ReBkbwbBg_wVvyRm7tZBzV7ip-_krYVFJPIAEpj_sC5T5eFPXJRty7WdpLfkj9uBLaFGScEBkJWNm9ZiRFs4IdMj1WHfZ-swgZOKVS53eodX7c_tDyLESUTIhY/s320/Velvet+Giveaway+B.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522081004185768658" />

The purse is made of designer fabric, royal velvet, and a beautiful compilation of fabric items that I purchased from Annie (Glitter Your World/Blur Babies). Well, I survived my first computer crash. Turned it on last Thursday evening and the kiss of death 'blue screen' appeared. I just hung my head and said a few choice words and then saw nothing but $$$ signs slipping away. Can't live without a computer ~ I am sorry to say. Well, I could if I had to but it took some getting used to.

Now all is well. Had a few minor glitches with uploading photos as my 'program' was destroyed and the fine young man who came to the house and replaced the dead hard drive found a free software that is 100 times better than the one I had before. Wizard is for the birds ~ it wouldn't allow me to change the size, etc. of all the photos.

Attached are a couple of photos of greeting cards I made on Saturday ~ then the flu bug hit. Today with lots of hot tea, Tylenol and *some* sleep ~ I was able to upload these into my Etsy shop. http://www.etsy.com/shop/maranderstudios.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI80BsL9P8aDnSl-EEpRmpHu87DnamC-fib8kSQG5Ar3mAX8WXaX_Cd6aA8qTdStxw35MtCmsbzlOuOIJpSZShCB1FAFUU4l8813dp44wqfw0iGO5l8DgnilMAumeeIh-Ksca8Lj_kbPk/s320/Hydranga+A.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5521627239220692770" />

Hope you are all having a wonderful week. It was a cool day ~ we kept waiting for the sun to appear ~ but in a way I am glad it didn't as the cloudy gray sky, coupled with the cool breeze, added to the ambiance the season. Autumn has arrived here in New England.

Pumpkins (I didn't know there were white pumpkins) are now displayed on many of the front porches of homes in our quaint New England villages; stores are putting out the Halloween candy and displaying the costumes and do-dads to create your own "costume"; and the leaves are now beginning to change in the glorious colors this area is famous for.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOYbo8tnmeJ-aTLje3NCNrkPhfQWXUQ5Oti2izPX8mzzH_vet3dKN4XD5fw4ykrKjCgCcfeWQr0FmswJI5GYXesgA5xnb7oNbCUlAJriEO2JWrRQcwAteaso5K1Ye0fG7BENWwlr4fY_8/s320/Autumn+at+Idylwilde+B.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518376559049544466" />

One of the biggest fairs in the area will be held next week and I am truly looking forward to purchasing cider to make cups of hot mulled cider; picking apples in local orchards to make my grandmothers recipe for Apple Crisp; buying a couple more mugs to make hot chocolate; stock up on yarn to make afghans and scarves for the troops; and visiting all the fall fairs that are scheduled for the next month or so.

Here are some of photos I took at the Idylwilde Fruit stand that has everything under the sun the for seasonal decorations ~ as well as vegetables, cheeses, fruit, meats, plants, flowers and homemade baked goods and candy.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWcydOJ8cHlC06tidMOZUojyejNCp9h-BJZS9iKmcJz9j5urATWtNtF9J859qOniGVJRSWot8IMtK8_siYjXK5OsuGEtYb5fAaVTSOdgU_GrhZv7kEjdYg-nVMm2q6OvfZAsHe6lUD774/s320/Autumn+at+Idylwilde+C.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518376846809763554" />

I hope all of you get to enjoy the changes of the season where you live. I won't even begin to debate the issue however, as a lover of antiques, artifacts, old things and yes ~ even some 'junk' I have always thought of it as a history lesson. Often, you can love an inanimate object just because of what it represents.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8CSRuHY1ILjsnu24rjkJmQ__Ek92ym3wrzPm8wRvKwoTzHzPSOFL40yFSaHhmOuuj-iJdLS8dT3ZJTVpES-Gxv4KNkebkiwqOVuqo5l8MSwaXjN4dE-3jOk3xSjFjFOXeNBp6163ZYCI/s320/Aunt+Flossie%27s+Recipe+and+Silver+Spoon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516040404660515346" />

At many a yard sale, I would sometimes come across an item, pick it up and just hold it. I used to look for 'markings' and often became frustrated when I could find nothing. I'd put it down and go off to look at some of the other tables but found myself going back to that special item. Again, I would feel the wood or see if the porcelain had any chips or cracks. Even if everything was intact I often felt as though I needed to justify its worth. So, I put it down again. One more look around at everything else and then ~ almost instantly ~ I had to go back, pay for it and take it home with me. Now, without panic in my eyes, I would saunter over to the table where the item was sitting. One time, I went back and it was gone. I could have cried but as an adult I composed myself and tried to act as if it was no big deal. Suddenly, there it was. Someone else had picked it up and like me ~ didn't "see" the $ value and put it back. It was whispering to me. So, I carefully picked it up ~ paid for it immediately and brought it to my car.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqcEvziQpCjOzYgD_M93jPIR8y91lCh60EWSM6Qe4JqL-ElqwAU2Zm1TfLHhFhB72uqEQ8Tv5kTBqqrR5VUm5jTbdePUmpKHz_6hR8lTlQWovAM-hymcmQ3q4_NuRtpYl1uUV4npzBBcg/s320/Ali.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516039687527546786" />

I love the imperfections of the past. I often wonder who held it. If it is linen or lace I would love to know who made it, how old were they, were their hands fumbled by youth; were their fingers sturdy and confident; were they made by old arthritic fingers ~ yet steeped with experience and knowledge? Just holding these items I can often feel the spirit that has transcended through time. I love the imperfections ~ and often you can tell if they were left or right handed ~ depending on the direction the item follows when you lay it on a table.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNPM1ARDc2oechhRhQu2ePV2pLgsUYdXy17LLHpTtfaKW3PFbpUlWS8RgGdxl_1fBZOyCMi-CTrxe2Eg5NmvR4xNTglDSg0itbyFDcqLmB9h3nKQoEKG3m_IBN9Bt7u_X-Y4hRye8X7BU/s320/Old+letters.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5516041366658462482" />

A dear friend (Michelle from PetiteMichelleLouise) included a piece in her blog by Harold Darling (I LOVE OLD THINGS) so I purchased his book. I found it on Amazon.com and it is now one of my cherished items. In the book he wrote "...I feel that it is right to cherish that which has been cherished by those who came before me".

Enjoy the hunt, cherish the past and embrace the future.
Hugs,
MarilynMarander Studioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04343863028443790436noreply@blogger.com4
